TW: miscarriage & grief When I've been in the dep TW: miscarriage & grief

When I've been in the depths of grief, I've written. I've put my thoughts, my feelings, my heart down onto paper. It’s been therapeutic and healing, so I wanted to share some of things I’ve written in these times, in that the hope it might help someone else feel less alone. Vulnerability is powerful.

Something that I learnt about grief and myself during these times of miscarriage is that the grief doesn’t ever go away, and honestly, it shouldn’t. Grief is an indicator of how much you loved. Grief reminds you of the beauty in pain, the happiness you did experience, the moments that you will treasure for the rest of your life.

In time it does get a little easier, the days feel lighter again, there’s more days of happiness and less days of all consuming sadness. The moments of joy and gratitude will return and you will be reminded of your purpose, all the good that there is for you in this life, even though there will be hard moments too. The sun will shine again. You will shine again 🤍

Wave of Light - Baby Loss Awareness Week 🤍

“Little one,
You were a long time waited, dreamed of, hoped for
A moment in life that became so precious.
That one look at the two lines that showed us you were growing in my womb,
A place that we thought was safe.
Excitement bubbled up inside us,
But only to be taken from me so suddenly.

This week would have been the week we announced you to the world,
Yet instead we light this candle for you.
To remember the beautiful moment of excitement we felt to know that we became your parents.
To remember who you would have been,
And how much we wanted you.

My grief is painful,
but it also demonstrates the love I have for you.
It’s a reminder of how precious you are.
I know in time it’ll become easier,
But I’ll never forget you,
My little sunshine ☀️”

I wish we talked about these things more because 1 in 4 go through a miscarriage. It’s common yet I only knew of a handful of people who had been through one, until I spoke out about my own and found hundreds of others who had also been through the same 💔

My heart has been breaking for all of you who have had a miscarriage, baby loss, struggling with infertility or the whole TTC process, but I also want to use what was such a crappy situation for good. I want you to know that you are not alone if you are also going through this or feeling the heavy burden. It’s hard, so so hard. But knowing that there are others who understand this pain, who are around to speak to, who feel the grief with you, lightens the load.

I hear you, I see you, I’m with you. x

TW: miscarriage [NOT a pregnancy announcement] To TW: miscarriage [NOT a pregnancy announcement]

Today is 2 weeks since we were told I was having a miscarriage with our first baby. One of the most awful days of our lives 💔

Over the last 2 weeks I’ve navigated so many different feelings and thoughts, as well as going through an incredibly physically challenging miscarriage. For the first few days I felt incredibly numb to the world, was unable to cry and lost all sense of time. Then the tears began to flow and all the thoughts of anxiety and fear around trying to conceive again and “what ifs”, the deep sadness of losing our first baby, the medical trauma from a very scary experience in hospital, began to hit.

As the days have gone on, things have become a little less heavy. I’ve started to find joy in little things and find my sparkle again ✨ With grief, I understand that time is a healer! I also recognise that this will likely stay with me for the rest of my life, losing a baby is like losing a part of yourself.

I’m thankful for this community, for the people who have reached out, offered support and love, as well as those who have shared their own stories with miscarriage and helped me to feel a little less alone! You are all amazing & I so appreciate you 🥰

Writing (along with cooking & getting outside) has been my comfort over the past couple of weeks, so I’ve written a piece for my blog on the things that have helped me navigate baby loss 🤍

Today was a BIG day, a day that I knew was probabl Today was a BIG day, a day that I knew was probably coming my way soon. Today I was discharged from Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy!

I started physio 1 year and 9 months ago (just before I was about to have Excision surgery) after seriously struggling with painful sex, as well as a number of other issues. When I started I didn’t believe it would help, I believed that painful sex would be something I would just have to live with. I was feeling alone, anxious and very down.

My physio gave me so much reassurance and encouraged me that things can get better. She understood, listened & enabled me to keep going when things got tough.

It’s not always smooth sailing and there’s still some bumps in the road that I’m working through (the psychological and emotional effect/trauma painful sex has on your mind is real)! Nevertheless, I’m so thankful to be here, in the place where my pain is so much better than it was, feeling so much more freedom and the ability to enjoy all that life holds again (including good sex) 🙌🏻

So I wanted to share just some of the many reasons why pelvic floor physiotherapy has been so life-changing for me and how it can help you! Honestly recommend it to ANYONE with Endometriosis 💛

25 things I’ve learnt in 25 years

Today is my 25th birthday and I wanted to share a few nuggets of wisdom I’ve learnt along the way!

  1. Find joy in the littlest of things – the smell of fresh rain, a hot cup of tea, the smell of freshly cut grass.
  2. Even in the darkest of times, there is always hope. There will be better days to come!
  3. Making happy memories are always more treasured than possessions. Never forget to take those photos and enjoy the present.
  4. Enjoy the moment, don’t miss it trying to create the perfect Instagram shot. Some of my favourite moments are ones where me and my family are just belly laughing at the simplest of things!
  5. Choosing to accept your body and true self doesn’t mean you won’t have bad days.
  6. But it does mean that you are learning to listen to it and know what feels good for you!
  7. Being quiet is not a bad thing, you are amazing whether you are super outgoing or quiet, it doesn’t mean you are not confident!
  8. You don’t need to try to be like everyone else, you are perfect the way you are.
  9. Find time to look after your mental health, it’s just as important as physical health.
  10. You are worthy of finding someone who truly loves you for you…
  11. But first of all, find love for yourself!
  12. Keep seeking and finding your strength in Jesus, he will sustain you!
  13. Don’t feel the need to hold on to people who cause you pain or toxicity in your life.
  14. Know that some friendships are meant for long seasons and others for short periods of time, it’s okay if you are not friends with everyone forever.
  15. You will go through difficult situations in life and it will be hard. But growth will come from that.
  16. You can absolutely get through hard things!
  17. Your body is meant to change as you get older, your imperfections are what make you beautiful!
  18. Do things that make you happy – buy those flowers, walk in the sunshine, do your makeup.
  19. Keep pushing and advocating for your health.
  20. You are worthy or support and for your pain to be believed!
  21. Know that your worth is not dependant on your productivity or achievements.
  22. But do celebrate every little achievement because even the smallest things show progress and you flourishing!
  23. Always tell/remind the people you care about, that you love them.
  24. Eat that chocolate (any sweet treat), you don’t need to earn it or burn it off later.
  25. Be authentically YOU!

All the best, Abbie x

Expectation vs Reality 🥲 You expect getting h Expectation vs Reality 🥲

You expect getting help to be easy and straight forward, but it’s anything BUT this! Getting a diagnosis or access to treatment/surgery (even after diagnosis) for Endometriosis can be so so hard. It’s a constant cycle of advocating for yourself, being medically dismissed or gaslighting, being told your “pain is normal”, advocating some more and sometimes, if we are lucky, getting some answers/help. Nevertheless, it’s absolutely exhausting!

If you are also going through this difficult cycle of trying to access help, know you are not alone and that you can always reach out for support 🫶🏻
